Bowel Obstruction/ Appendicities-Surgeries

Bowel obstruction and appendicitis are common conditions that often require surgical intervention for treatment.

Bowel Obstruction: This occurs when there is a blockage in the intestine that prevents the passage of food, fluid, and gas. Causes can include adhesions (scar tissue), hernias, tumors, or conditions like Crohn’s disease. Symptoms include severe abdominal pain, bloating, vomiting, and constipation. Treatment typically involves surgery to remove the obstruction and, if necessary, repair any damaged bowel.

Appendicitis: This is inflammation of the appendix, a small pouch attached to the large intestine. Appendicitis can be caused by obstruction of the appendix lumen, leading to bacterial overgrowth and infection. Symptoms often include sudden onset of abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and fever. Appendicitis is typically treated with appendectomy, the surgical removal of the appendix, which is usually performed urgently to prevent complications like rupture and peritonitis.
